The only good thing about making this bet is there is so much going on in sports that it’s impossible for me to run out of stuff to talk about.

If you’ve been keeping up with the website, you’ve probably noticed that there’s a ton of basketball stories and that’s really my fault. But, whatever, this is my space to talk about stuff and I spend as much time as I can watching the NBA.

If you don’t like the NBA, then honestly, this story is for you. Just hear me out for one story because you probably missed it and for whatever reason, it took me a few days to get around to it too.

The San Antonio Spurs were playing the Sacramento Kings last Saturday, Halloween night. Just take a look at this video and see if you can spot what happens the first time. If not it will be explained to you.

Can you make that up? A bat comes flying into the arena, interrupts the play on the court and with one swipe, Spurs guard Manu Ginobili swats it down and then hands it off to an arena employee.

That can only happen in the NBA. If you’ve never been to a game live, trust me go to one and then tell me you don’t like basketball. There is no other sport that can compete with the NBA live, it’s just too great.

Pretty funny stuff right?

Well not according to the completely sane and rational people at PETA. The story on ESPN.com mentioned that the group was upset with what Ginobili did but what’s crazy is how many people are pissed about it.

See for yourself.

“To bludgeon a 4-ounce animal to death,” really cracked me up. Are people really that concerned about a bat? It’s not like he punted a puppy or something.

Anyway, just reading that made me mad. I don’t even really like Ginobili that much, I think he flops around too much and cries too hard if a foul is called on him. But I would never criticize him for this, he swatted an animal that can bite you. What is he supposed to do?

I have his back on this one, if there’s a bat flying at you and you have nothing to protect yourself with, you swat at it and see what happens. I doubt I could knock a bat right out of midair like that, but here’s proof it can be done.

Then play resumed and everyone is good to go.

Nope, to appease PETA, Ginobili had to apologize for his actions and get a rabies shot. Seriously, this is way too lame, but here’s what I’m sure he was forced to write on his facebook account:

“Just wanted to give you guys an update on the bat situation. As many of you already know, it wasn’t a great idea. Not only for the fact that bats are great part of the ecosystem, but also, because some carry rabies, which is an incurable disease. That’s why I had to get vaccinated today [and it wasn't just one shot!].”

The NBA folks. Where fake, unnecessary apologies happen.
